Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
changed my life.
Will it change yours?
I’ve always believed that everybody has a finite amount of coping.
Sometimes everything is going well, and you have coping to spare; nothing phases you and you can deal with whatever life throws at you.
At other times, the stressors in your life build up and you feel like you’re hanging on by a thread.
- Your to-do list starts to build up.
- Emails go unread and post sits there unopened, because you can’t face finding out that there’s something else you should be doing.
All it takes is one small mishap, like being unable to find a shoe, and that’s it. You’ve run out of coping and you find yourself sitting in your car, sobbing your heart out, wondering how you got to that point.
Or perhaps, that’s just me.
Whether your stressors have built up so gradually that you hadn’t realised how bad things were, or they’re linked to a particular event, solution focused hypnotherapy can help.
To begin with, it may simply give you an hour a week where you can put your stresses to one side and relax, but before you know it, you will have built up the skills to manage your own stress bucket so that you feel like yourself and have coping to spare.
Who knows, you may even be so impressed with the impact it has had on your life that you decide to retrain as a hypnotherapist so that you can help other people do the same thing.
Hi. I’m Louise (she/her), a qualified hypnotherapist, committed parkrunner (A113124), erstwhile chartered accountant, left handed, cat owner who meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.
As such, I am well-placed to understand that one size does not fit all, and I use solution focused hypnotherapy and walking therapy to help my clients craft bespoke approaches that meet their unique needs.
I first knew I was different when I was playing cards with my family.
When they fanned their cards, they could see all the numbers. When I fanned mine, I saw nothing.
It turns out that traditional playing cards, with numbers on two corners, are right-handed. If you’re left-handed, you naturally fan your cards the other way, revealing the blank corners. After many years of trying to find ways of fanning my cards the “right” way, we bought a new deck of cards, one that had numbers in all four corners, and worked whichever way you fanned your cards.
That sense of being different, of not quite fitting in with conventional approaches, is one that has cropped up time and time again, both as a result of my left handedness and what I’ve recently discovered was my interest-based ADHD brain.
When I am forced to do things in a way that does not come naturally, it takes a ridiculous amount of mental energy.
When I am able to find an approach that works for me, it’s as though a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Watching my clients learn to manage the stressors in their lives and find their own ‘eureka’ moments and seeing how these moments add up to transform their lives is an absolute joy.
As a graduate of CPHT, I use the tried and tested methods developed by David Newton at The Clifton Practice.
Each hypnotherapy session has a simple structure containing the following key elements:
What’s been good?
Brain explanation, tips and tricks
What would better look like?
What’s the first step towards better?
Relaxation and trance
The structure of walking therapy sessions is similar, though in those sessions, the relaxation is provided by nature rather than hypnosis.
My Values
Simple
When life is overwhelming, the smallest things can seem like insurmountable barriers so I aim to keep things as simple as possible, for example by having an online booking system.
Personal
Although each session uses the same basic framework, no two sessions are the same because no two clients are the same and no client is the same every week. Each session is client-led and may or may not follow on from the previous session. We focus on whatever is most important to you at the time.
Authentic
Masking requires energy. The less I mask with you, the more energy I have to support you. The less you mask with me, the more energy you have to find solutions. I aim to provide a space where you can be yourself, whoever that may be.
Inclusive
If you can be conventional and happy, that’s fantastic, but given the choice between being conventional and unhappy or being unconventional and happy, I would advocate for unconventional happiness any day of the week.
Obligation-free
You set the pace. Some people like weekly sessions, others dip in and out, both are fine. I’ll never guilt-trip you for not booking, and honestly, I’m so time-blind I probably won’t even notice if you disappear for a few months. No awkwardness when you come back, I’ll be here when you’re ready.
